Rebecca Strzelec (hint: that z is silent, rhymes with ‘relic’) serves as Associate Dean for Academic Programs and Professor within the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. From 2002-2023 Strzelec served as Distinguished Professor of Visual Arts and Head of Visual Art Studies at Penn State University, Altoona College. She earned her BFA and MFA from Tyler School of Art, Temple University in Metals/Jewelry/CAD-CAM. Her often narrative work consists of wearable objects which are created via 3D modeling, 3D printing, LASER cutting, sewing, and other methods. Her work is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design, Fuller Craft Museum, Racine Art Museum and the private collection of Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Strzelec’s work has been featured in exhibitions the US and abroad. Strzelec is a Penn State Alumni Teaching Fellow and the 2016-2017 Penn State Laureate. Strzelec served as Chair of the SIGGRAPH 2012 conference, an annual event that brought over 21,000 people connected to computer graphics and interactive techniques to Los Angeles. You may know Strzelec as #38 REBECCAPHOBIA when she skated for State College Area Roller Derby (sadly, she has since retired). Strzelec lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan with her husband, two children, and super mutt Wrigley.
